Mitsubishi Motors
Under a 1997 agreement with the Rainforest Action Network
(RAN), Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America (MMSA) agreed to
conduct an unprecedented environmental review of all their
business practices, and to track their environmental performance
in manufacturing, distributing, and sales. In an effort to
address corporate responsibility and the environment, the
company agreed to eliminate non-renewable and hazardous materials
from their production processes. Mitsubishi also pledged to
end their use of old-growth forest products, to phase out
the use of tree-based paper and packaging products in favor
of alternative fibers, The company now uses Vanguard
Recycled Plus™, 24# writing paper for its corporate
letterhead.
"Saving the environment can lead to new
business opportunities."
— Tachi Kiuchi, the
former CEO of Mitsubishi
Patagonia
Patagonia has long been a pioneer in the garment industry.
Recognizing that their business activity creates pollution,
the company strives to minimize their impact on the environment
by using processed chlorine-free post-consumer recycled paper,
tree-free paper, and soy-based inks whenever possible for
printing catalogs and other materials. To this end, Patagonia
prints their hang tags on Vanguard
Recycled Plus™, 80# cover stock.
"We realized that all of Patagonia's facilities
should be involved in recycling and composting and have edible
landscaping, low energy-use power, and insulation. We should
use recycled paper everywhere, even in our catalogs, encourage
ride sharing, eliminate paper cups, and so forth."
— Yvon Chouinard, Founder
of Patagonia
Staples
Staples no longer carries Vanguard
Recycled Plus™. We wish to thank all who supported the paper while offered online and in stores. We are now working diligently to establish a new national distribution. In the meantime, you may order from us directly at 800-309-2974.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Musicians have long been a mouthpiece for environmental sustainability,
but in April 2002, the band insisted that their label, Warner
Bros., use tree-free and recycled paper on their new release,
By The Way. The CD features a 12 page CD insert printed on
our Déjà Vu™
100# Matte Text.
"If we could do it first in a way where
we're not being wasteful and helping to recycle and preserve
our precious resources, that's great and we're happy to do
that; but also, we wanted to set some sort of standard to
inspire other bands and help them to see that it's very easy
and simple to do and your CD's can still look good and do
well and that we don't need to waste trees."
— Flea, Bassist, Red
Hot Chili Peppers
Shortly after the release of the CD, Jackson
Browne and The Foo Fighters
decided to follow suite. Browne's latest release, "The
Naked Ride Home", has a CD booklet printed on Déjà
Vu™, 100# Matte Text. The Foo Fighters CD insert is
printed on Vanguard Recycled
Plus™, 80# Text.

University of Oregon
In 1990, the University of Oregon enacted a policy addressing
the use of recycled paper products in its operations. The
new policy required the University to purchase and use paper
products made from recycled materials. In 2000 LIVING
TREE PAPER COMPANY began supplying paper products to
the university bookstore. Today, the company supplies the
paper for all of the University's departmental letterhead
and envelopes. |
